Red Chili Prices Soar Past Rp100,000 per Kg in 10 Provinces as Year-End Approaches

As in previous years, the prices of several staple commodities have increased during Christmas and the year-end period. The prices of chilies, cooking oil, and several other commodities have surged due to extreme weather in several regions of Indonesia.

One staple commodity experiencing a price increase is red chili. Based on data from the National Strategic Food Price Information Center (PIHPS), the price of chilies in several regions has even exceeded Rp 100,000 per kilogram (kg).

The price of red chilies in traditional markets in North Maluku even reached Rp 165,000 per kg. This is the highest price compared to other regions.

The next most expensive province for red chilies is Maluku, reaching Rp 150,650 per kg. This is followed by West Kalimantan at Rp 136,250 per kg, then West Papua at Rp 128,750 per kg, and North Kalimantan at Rp 126,900 per kg.

Central Kalimantan also saw red chili prices at Rp 126,250 per kg. Following this are DKI Jakarta at Rp 118,350 per kg, Bangka Belitung Islands at Rp 112,500 per kg, and South Kalimantan and East Kalimantan at Rp 110,850 per kg and Rp 110,400 per kg respectively.
