Coconuts Were the Largest Plantation Commodity in Maluku in 2020

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded that coconut production in Maluku decreased by 0.52% to 103.77 million tons in 2020. Despite the decrease, coconut production in the province remained the highest compared to other plantation commodities.

The area of coconut plantations in Maluku was also the largest among other commodities, namely 115.16 million hectares in 2020. However, unlike its production which decreased, the area of coconut plantations in Maluku actually increased by 0.64% compared to 2019, which was 114.42 million hectares.

By region, the highest coconut production was in Maluku Tenggara Regency, namely 20.9 million tons in 2020. Tanimbar Islands Regency and Central Maluku Regency were next, with coconut production of 19.51 million tons and 18.77 million tons, respectively.

Maluku also produced 20.45 million tons of cloves in 2020. Sago and cocoa production in Maluku amounted to 10.05 million tons and 8.15 million tons, respectively, in the same period.

Furthermore, nutmeg production in Maluku amounted to 5.31 million tons. Following that, cashew production was 982 thousand tons, coffee 393 thousand tons, and palm oil 86.70 thousand tons.
