Rice Production in Jakarta Increased in 2020

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) notes that the contribution of the agricultural, forestry, and fisheries sectors in Jakarta is relatively low. These sectors contributed only 0.09% to Jakarta's total economy in the second quarter of 2021.

However, rice production in Jakarta increased in 2020. Jakarta produced 4,657 tons of rice that year, a 38.6% increase from 3,359 tons in 2019.

Rice is produced in North Jakarta, East Jakarta, and West Jakarta. The largest production was in Rorotan, North Jakarta, at 4,113 tons, or 88% of the total production in 2020.

The harvested area for rice in Jakarta was 934 hectares (ha) in 2020. This is a 49.9% increase compared to 623 ha in 2019.

For information, rice is the only food crop in Jakarta. Other agricultural commodities developed in the capital are horticultural types, including vegetables, fruits, medicinal plants, and ornamental plants.
