Development of Tobacco Cultivation Area in Indonesia 2014-2024

According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) compiled by Databoks, Indonesia has a tobacco cultivation area of 252.90 thousand hectares (ha) in 2024.

This area includes tobacco cultivation land that is already productive, not yet productive, or damaged/non-productive. This data covers harvests from smallholder, state, and private plantations.

The tobacco cultivation area in 2024 increased by approximately 24.92 thousand hectares compared to 2023, marking the highest record in the last decade.

During the 2014-2024 period, its area fluctuated. The largest area was recorded in 2024, while the smallest area was found in 2016, at 156 thousand hectares.

In 2024, only 15 out of 38 provinces in Indonesia were recorded as having tobacco cultivation areas, namely:

1. East Java: 144.56 thousand ha

2. Central Java: 50.04 thousand ha

3. West Nusa Tenggara: 39.31 thousand ha

4. West Java: 8.97 thousand ha

5. South Sulawesi: 2.41 thousand ha

6. North Sumatra: 1.91 thousand ha

7. Aceh: 2.31 thousand ha

8. East Nusa Tenggara: 1.35 thousand ha

9. Lampung: 0.66 thousand ha

10. West Sumatra: 0.16 thousand ha

11. Central Sulawesi: 0.10 thousand ha

12. DI Yogyakarta: 0.47 thousand ha

13. Jambi: 0.31 thousand ha

14. Bali: 0.30 thousand ha

15. South Sumatra: 0.06 thousand ha.
