The Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) found 212 rice brands suspected of containing adulterated rice, comprising 136 premium rice brands and 76 medium rice brands.

This finding is the result of Kementan's inspection in 10 major Indonesian rice-producing provinces from June 6 to 23, 2025.

Kementan estimates that the potential losses for consumers due to the sale of adulterated rice reach Rp99.35 trillion per year.

Of the samples examined, 85.56% of premium rice brands did not meet the established quality standards.

Furthermore, 59.78% of premium rice brands were sold above the highest retail price (HET), and 21.66% had a lower actual weight than stated on the packaging.

For medium rice, 88.24% of the total samples tested did not meet quality standards, 95.12% were priced above the HET, and 9.38% had inaccurate weight labeling.

"We (tested) using 13 labs across Indonesia because we don't want to be wrong, as this is very sensitive," said Amran.

The National Food Task Force (Satgas Pangan) of the Indonesian National Police is currently investigating four rice producers suspected of violating quality and weight standards: Wilmar Group, PT Food Station Tjipinang Jaya, PT Belitang Panen Raya, and PT Sentosa Utama Lestari (Japfa Group).
