Top 5 Rice-Producing Provinces in Indonesia in 2024

The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) recorded East Java as the Indonesian province with the highest rice production volume in 2024. This is stated in the report *Executive Summary of Rice Harvesting Area and Production in Indonesia 2024 (Fixed Figures)*.

Throughout last year, East Java produced 5,352,936 tons of rice. However, this volume decreased compared to 2023, which reached 5,607,132 tons of rice.

Central Java became the second province with the highest rice production, namely 5,113,022 tons of rice. Similar to East Java, this province also experienced a decrease in production compared to the previous year, which reached 5,223,899 tons of rice.

Meanwhile, West Java became the third province with the highest rice production in 2024 with 4,981,869 tons of rice. This achievement also decreased from 2023, which produced 5,278,209 tons of rice.

Next is South Sulawesi, which produced 2,764,990 tons of rice in 2024. The total production decreased slightly compared to the previous year, which reached 2,798,248 tons of rice.

South Sumatra occupied the fifth position with a weight of 1,670,745 tons of rice. This is the only province in the top 5 that experienced an increase in volume from 2023, which was 1,626,735 tons of rice.

Nationally, throughout January to December 2024, Indonesia produced 30,621,249 tons of rice. According to BPS data, this volume decreased by 480,040 tons or 1.54% year-on-year (yoy) from 2023, which reached 31,101,285 tons of rice.
