Data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) shows that Indonesia produced 53.14 million tons of milled dry rice (GKG) in 2024. This volume decreased by 0.84 million tons of GKG or 1.55% year-on-year (yoy).
The Acting Head of BPS, Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, stated that this decrease was influenced by the shrinking rice production during January-April.
"However, this decrease can be compensated by the increase in production during May-August and September-December 2024," said Amalia in an online press conference on Monday (3/2/2025).
In 2024, East Java was the province with the highest national rice production, reaching 9.27 million tons of GKG. It was followed by Central Java, producing 8.89 million tons of GKG, and West Java with 8.62 million tons of GKG.
"In line with the spatial pattern of harvested area, approximately 54.19% of the total national rice production in 2024 was located on Java Island," said Amalia.
Meanwhile, the province with the lowest rice production was Papua Pegunungan, with only 42 tons of GKG in 2024. This was followed by the Riau Islands with 305 tons of GKG and Southwest Papua with 989 tons of GKG.
The following is a list of the top 10 provinces with the highest rice production volume nationally in 2024:
