Indonesia's Top Cocoa Export Destinations in 2023

According to a report by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Indonesia imported 339,989 tons of cocoa worth US$1.19 billion in 2023. The volume decreased by 11.78% year-on-year (yoy) from the previous year's shipment of 385,421 tons.

India was the main destination for Indonesian cocoa exports in 2023, with a volume of 61,922 tons, representing 18.21% of total national exports.

Indonesia also supplied this chocolate base material to countries in Asia, Europe, and Africa.

The following is a list of the top 10 export destinations for Indonesian cocoa in 2023:

1. India: 61,922 tons
2. United States: 43,403 tons
3. China: 39,890 tons
4. Malaysia: 35,181 tons
5. Estonia: 18,098 tons
6. Australia: 15,670 tons
7. Philippines: 12,728 tons
8. Netherlands: 9,535 tons
9. Brazil: 9,042 tons
10. Russia: 8,677 tons

Based on HS codes, the largest volume of cocoa exports from Indonesia was cocoa butter (HS 18040000), reaching 136,800 tons or 40.24% of total cocoa exports.

This was followed by cocoa powder (HS 18050000) at 111,220 tons; cocoa paste (HS 18032000) at 38,770 tons; cocoa paste (HS 18031000) at 13,300 tons; cocoa beans (HS 18010090) at 13,230 tons; and other types at 26,680 tons.
