Measures the Government Needs to Take to Eradicate Fake Professors

The challenges of becoming a professor are immense. Some individuals resort to unethical practices to obtain this highest academic title, including using ghostwriters. These ghostwriters create academic works fulfilling academic graduation requirements.

In light of this, Kompas Research and Development investigated public opinion on what the government can do to address the issue of professorships obtained through improper procedures.

24.1% of respondents believe the government's primary action should be to sanction universities that grant such titles.

The next necessary step, according to 22.8% of respondents, is to improve the higher education system. This is followed by 19.6% who believe the government must enforce regulations regarding the granting of professorial titles or positions.

Furthermore, 18.6% of respondents stated that upholding the norms and prestige of universities to prevent them from being "bought" is necessary. Finally, 13.6% of respondents hope the government will reinvigorate the mental revolution.

Kompas Research and Development believes that firm government enforcement of existing regulations is crucial.

"Equally important is to reinvigorate the mental revolution. With a better mentality, the schemes to obtain the title of professor or senior lecturer can be curbed," wrote a Kompas Research and Development researcher in their report on Sunday, August 11, 2024.

This Kompas Research and Development poll involved 530 randomly and proportionally selected respondents across 38 Indonesian provinces.

Data collection was conducted from July 22-24, 2024, through telephone interviews. The survey's margin of error is approximately 4.32% with a 95% confidence level, under conditions of simple random sampling.
