Corn, China's Most Produced Food Commodity

Corn is the most produced food commodity in China. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) recorded corn production in the country reaching 260.8 million tons in 2020.

This large corn production makes China the second largest corn producer after the United States. The corn produced is not only consumed by the Chinese people but also used as animal feed.

Other food commodities also widely produced in China include rice with a production of 213.6 million tons, followed by vegetables and milled rice with production of 170.3 million tons and 142.4 million tons respectively.

Rice has long been a symbol of food in China, but it has been overtaken by corn. World Bank data shows that corn harvest production has increased by 125%, surpassing rice production over the past 25 years.
