Construction is an activity whose end result is a building/structure that is integrated with the land on which it stands. Besides exporting construction services, Indonesia also imports them.
Indonesia's Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded the value of construction service imports in 2020 at Rp 130.6 trillion. Unlike exports, which increased, construction service imports in 2020 decreased by 10% from Rp 145.2 trillion in 2019.
China was the largest source of Indonesia's construction service imports in 2020, with a value of Rp 71.69 trillion. This was followed by Japan with imports valued at Rp 34.1 trillion.
Imports of construction services from South Korea were recorded at Rp 20.39 trillion. The United States and Malaysia followed with import values of Rp 1.29 trillion and Rp 1.03 trillion, respectively.
The trend shows that Indonesia's construction service imports have been fluctuating since 2016 to 2020. The highest value of construction service imports occurred in 2019 at Rp 145.2 trillion, while the lowest occurred in 2017 at Rp 65.86 trillion.
In 2020, Indonesia's construction service imports were largest in civil works construction, with a value of Rp 121.64 trillion. This was followed by building construction with import value of Rp 5.2 trillion, and special construction at Rp 3.76 trillion.

Building construction includes general construction activities for various types of buildings.
