The Indonesian Logistics Agency (Bulog) has ordered 500,000 tons of imported rice to control domestic prices. These imports have been arriving in Indonesia gradually since December 2022.
"We are doing this (rice import) nonstop, without interruption. We will continue to do so until rice prices reach a reasonable level," said Bulog President Director Budi Waseso, as reported by the Indonesia.go.id portal on Wednesday (February 15, 2023).
On the other hand, the governors of Indonesia's main rice-producing provinces, East Java and Central Java, claim that local rice supplies will increase with the arrival of the harvest season starting this month.
"Entering March, April, and May, East Java will have a major harvest," said East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa, as reported by the Indonesia.go.id portal on Wednesday (February 15, 2023).
Similar statements were made by Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo. "Central Java has started harvesting in February. The peak will be in March, April, and May," said Ganjar, as reported by the Indonesia.go.id portal on Wednesday (February 15, 2023).
