The Central Statistics Agency (BPS), in its report titled "Distribution of Red Chili Trade in Indonesia 2022," reports that the Trading and Transportation Margin (MPP) received by red chili traders in Indonesia in 2021 was 40.41%.
This indicates that the increase in the price of red chilies in Indonesia from producer to final consumer was 40.41%, involving two main distribution trade actors: wholesalers and retailers.
The increase in chili prices in the distribution chain in 2021 decreased by 20.9% compared to 2019, which reached 61.31%. Specifically, the price increase at the wholesaler level decreased to 17.42% in 2021 compared to 30.93% in 2019. Similarly, at the retailer level, it decreased to 19.58% from 23.2% previously.
East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) was the province with the highest MPP for red chilies, at 127.01% in 2021. This means that the price of red chilies in NTT increased by 127.01% from producer to consumer, going through three main distribution channels.
The next province with the highest MPP for red chilies was Bangka Belitung Islands, at 117.01%, followed by North Kalimantan at 115.85%, West Papua at 90.85%, and West Kalimantan at 81.02%.
Following these were South Kalimantan with an MPP of 72.04%, Maluku at 63.31%, North Maluku at 60.85%, Jakarta at 59.62%, and West Java at 59.2%.
MPP is the difference between the sales value and the purchase value, including transportation costs. This MPP reflects the increase in the price of red chilies from producer to final consumer, calculated based on the MPP ratio of the trading actors involved in a distribution channel.
