According to data from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Indonesia produced approximately 1.98 million tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) throughout 2023.
The volume decreased by 11,000 tons, or 0.56% year-on-year (yoy), compared to 2022.
Unlike the decline in production, total national demand or consumption of LPG in 2023 increased by 1.73% (yoy) to 8.7 million tons.
Accompanying the increase in demand, LPG imports in 2023 also increased by 3.13% (yoy) to 6.95 million tons.
To reduce reliance on imports, PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI) aims to increase Indonesia's LPG production from the Balikpapan Refinery Development Master Plan (RDMP) project.
"In the future, once the Balikpapan refinery development is completed, it can increase LPG production by approximately 330,000 metric tons per year," said PT KPI Corporate Secretary Hermansyah Y. Nasroen, as reported by Bisnis.com on Friday (February 9, 2024).
