Top 10 Global Rough Diamond Producing Countries in 2022: Russia Takes the Lead

According to the Kimberley Process report, only 22 countries worldwide produce rough diamonds.

Rough diamonds are uncut, raw diamonds found naturally and mined from specific regions.

In 2022, Russia was the world's largest producer of rough diamonds, with a production volume of 41.9 million carats, equivalent to 35% of global production.

Botswana followed as the second-largest producer of rough diamonds globally last year. This Southern African nation produced 24.5 million carats, contributing 20.43% to total global production.

Canada ranked third, producing 16.24 million carats or 13.54% of worldwide production.

The Democratic Republic of Congo and South Africa followed, producing 9.9 million carats and 9.6 million carats of diamonds, respectively.

These two countries contributed less than 10% to the total global rough diamond production.

Other countries such as Angola, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Lesotho, and Sierra Leone also have significant rough diamond production globally, with production volumes as shown in the attached graph.

The Kimberley Process also recorded that global rough diamond production reached 119.96 million carats, valued at US$16.01 billion. The global average price of rough diamonds was $133.51 per carat in 2022.
