The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded the number of slaughtered ruminant livestock at national-level slaughterhouses (RPH) and animal slaughterhouses (TPH) throughout 2023.
Cattle were the most slaughtered livestock, reaching 940,053 head, an increase of 8.29% compared to 2022 (year-on-year/yoy).
Pigs were second, with 305,605 slaughtered, down 18.84% (yoy).
Goat slaughter was third, at 103,863 head, down 17.92% (yoy).
Sheep slaughter plummeted 48.42% (yoy) to 48,568 head, buffalo slaughter decreased by 16.17% (yoy) to 20,300 head, and horse slaughter fell by 57.57% (yoy) to 840 head.
Throughout 2023, there were 1,138 active RPH/TPH units conducting livestock slaughter. These slaughterhouses were most numerous in East Java (197 units), West Java (113 units), and South Sulawesi (112 units).
