The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reports that rice production from January to September 2022 reached 45.43 million tons of milled dry paddy (GKG).
Then, during the October-December 2022 period, BPS estimates that production will increase by 1.34 million tons of GKG, reaching 10.24 million tons of GKG. The breakdown is as follows: 4.94 million tons of GKG in September 2022, 2.81 million tons in November, and 2.48 million tons in December.
Therefore, Indonesia's rice production is projected to grow by 2.31% to 55.67 million tons of GKG this year. This figure is estimated to be an increase of 1.25 million tons (2.31%) from last year's rice production of 54.42 million tons of GKG.
Rice production surged to 9.54 million tons of GKG in March 2022 and 7.74 million tons the following month, coinciding with the main harvest season in several regions.
Converted into rice, this year's paddy production will yield 32.07 million tons of rice for public consumption. This figure excludes rice losses and that used for animal feed.
This year's rice production is projected to increase by 0.72 million tons (2.29%) compared to last year's production of 31.36 million tons of rice.
Java remains Indonesia's largest rice-producing region, accounting for 56.13% of national rice production. Here is a breakdown of rice production by island in 2022*:
