According to the 2021 Road Transportation Statistics report from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the total length of roads throughout Indonesia reached 546,116 kilometers (km) in 2021.
Roads in good condition totaled 232,644 km, or 42.6% of the total road length in Indonesia.
Furthermore, 139,174 km of roads were in fair condition (25.49%), 87,454 km were damaged (16.01%), and 86,844 km were severely damaged (15.9%).
Cumulatively, the length of all damaged roads in Indonesia in 2021 reached 174,298 km (31.91%).
"Damaged roads are roads that can be traversed by vehicles at speeds of 20-40 km per hour and require road foundation repairs. Meanwhile, severely damaged roads are roads that can be traversed by vehicles at speeds of 0-20 km per hour," said BPS in its report.
Based on authority, national, provincial, and regency/city roads are generally in good or fair condition.
National roads in good condition reached 35.71%, followed by fair condition at 56.10%, damaged at 5.63%, and severely damaged at 2.56%.
Provincial roads in good condition reached 53.15%, followed by fair condition at 23.54%, damaged at 11.6%, and severely damaged at 11.7%.
Furthermore, regency/city roads in good condition reached 42.03%, followed by fair condition at 22.48%, damaged at 17.65%, and severely damaged at 17.82%.
