PLN (Persero) recorded electricity sales of 137.12 Terawatt hours (TWh) in the first half of 2023.
Darmawan Prasodjo, President Director of PLN, explained that one contributor to electricity sales growth in the first half of the year was the business sector.
According to PLN's records, electricity sales to the business sector reached 25.481 TWh. This achievement grew by 13.07% year-on-year (yoy).
Darmawan stated that businesses, primarily those in the digital sector, are driving electricity consumption growth, particularly in data centers.
Besides the digital sector, tourism also contributed significantly. This is reflected in the growth of electricity consumption in the hospitality and mall sectors.
"The company has successfully increased electricity sales thanks to various successful flagship programs and products. Therefore, with this positive trend, we are optimistic that PLN's electricity sales at the end of the year will exceed the RKAP (Company Work Plan and Budget)," said Darmawan in his official statement on the PLN website on Monday (24/7/2023).
In addition to the business sector, electricity sales to the household sector reached 58.69 TWh until June 2023, an increase of 3.2% (yoy). Darmawan mentioned that economic recovery and increased public activity are among the drivers of electricity consumption growth in the household sector.
Darmawan added that PLN has also mapped potential opportunities and prepared strategies to continue driving sales from July to December 2023.
"We will continue to seek new market niches to increase sales and expand our reach to customers. PLN wants electricity to be a catalyst for economic growth and social welfare," said Darmawan.
Previously, data reported by Bisnis.com showed that electricity sales volume in the first half of 2022 was 133.87 TWh. This figure increased from the previous achievement of 125.49 TWh in the first half of 2021.
