Lampung Ranks Among Top 10 Provinces with the Longest Stretches of Severely Damaged Roads

A Lampung resident, Bima Yudho Saputro, criticized the condition of roads in Lampung Province through a post on his TikTok account @awbimaxreborn.

"I often discuss roads because roads are the most common infrastructure for economic mobilization in Lampung. But, the roads in Lampung are 1 kilometer (km) good, 1 km damaged, and then the roads are just patched up. Is the government playing snakes and ladders or what?" Bima said on his TikTok account, quoted on Monday (17/4/2023).

Bima's criticism is in line with data in the *2021 Land Transportation Statistics* report released by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS).

According to the report, in 2021 Lampung was among the top 10 provinces with the longest stretches of severely damaged roads in Indonesia.

BPS defines "severely damaged roads" as roads passable by vehicles at speeds of 0-20 km per hour. In Lampung, provincial roads falling into this category totaled 252 km.

The longest stretch of severely damaged provincial roads in Indonesia was found in East Nusa Tenggara, followed by Riau and West Papua.

1. East Nusa Tenggara: 667 km
2. Riau: 633 km
3. West Papua: 623 km
4. North Sumatra: 583 km
5. Central Sulawesi: 442 km
6. North Maluku: 430 km
7. South Sulawesi: 374 km
8. Bengkulu: 270 km
9. Lampung: 252 km
10. West Kalimantan: 252 km

According to BPS, the total length of roads throughout Indonesia reached 546,116 km in 2021. Of this amount, roads categorized as severely damaged reached 86,844 km (15.9%).
