IKN Toll Road Still Incomplete, Progress as of Late July 2024

According to a report from the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), the construction of toll roads or freeways in the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) is not yet complete.

As of July 29, 2024, the highest construction progress is on the IKN access toll road Section 3B KKT Kariangau-Simpang Tempadung, spanning 7.3 kilometers (km), which has reached 91.53%.

Construction of Section 5A Simpang Tempadung-Pulau Balang Bridge (6.67 km) is at 88.28%; and Section 3A Karangjoang-KKT Kariangau (13.4 km) is at 81.15%.

Meanwhile, construction of the three other toll roads, namely Section 5B Pulau Balang Bridge-Riko (13.27 km); Section 6A Riko-Planned IKN Outer Ring Road (6.28 km); and Section 6B Planned Outer Ring Road-Simpang 3 ITCI (6.18 km) is less than 40% complete.

PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono stated that these freeways will be used for the movement of guests attending the independence ceremony in IKN on August 17, 2024.

"All access roads, from toll roads, ring roads, and national axis roads, are prepared to support the smooth participation of attendees in the 79th Indonesian Independence Day ceremony," said Basuki in a press release on Sunday (July 28, 2024).

These roads will connect with the Balikpapan-Samarinda (Balsam) Toll Road at KM 8-Kariangau, leading to Sepaku and entering the IKN area.

In addition to toll roads, the government is also building a duplicate of the Pulau Balang Short Span Bridge and painting the Pulau Balang Bridge.

This infrastructure serves to complement the existing Pulau Balang Short Span Bridge and connect the Pulau Balang Bridge, which was inaugurated by President Joko Widodo on Sunday (July 28, 2024).
