Jokowi's Influence Remains Strong in the 2024 Regional Elections

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) holds considerable influence over public choices in the 2024 regional elections (Pilkada).

According to a Kompas Research and Development (Litbang Kompas) survey, a majority, or 54.3% of respondents, considered choosing regional heads endorsed by Jokowi.

Meanwhile, only 32.9% of respondents did not consider Jokowi's endorsement, and 12.7% were unsure.

Although the "Jokowi effect" remains quite strong currently, Litbang Kompas assesses that its influence may weaken in the coming months.

This is because, by the time the regional elections are held in November 2024, Jokowi will have left office, and President Prabowo Subianto will be in power.

"Jokowi's influence and appeal may diminish slightly once he is no longer in power. This is where the test of Jokowi's prestige, influence, and effect will occur," stated the Litbang Kompas team in their report on Saturday, June 22, 2024.

This Litbang Kompas survey involved 1,200 respondents randomly selected using a stratified systematic sampling method across 38 Indonesian provinces.

Data collection was conducted from May 27 to June 2, 2024, through face-to-face interviews. The survey's margin of error is approximately 2.83%, with a 95% confidence level under simple random sampling conditions.
