Half of the 35,000 MW Power Plant Capacity to Meet Java's Electricity Needs

The government targeted the construction of 35,000 MW of power plants by 2019. However, due to the acceleration of the power purchase agreement (PPA) project for the Jawa-9,10 Coal-Fired Power Plant (PLTU) totaling 2 x 1,000 MW, the total capacity increased to 37,826 MW.

Of this amount, more than half, or approximately 19,400 MW, is to meet electricity needs in Java, comprising 6,200 MW for West Java and 13,000 MW for other parts of Java. Meanwhile, the Sumatra region requires 9,000 MW (23.84 percent), East Java, Bali, and Nusa Tenggara 2,800 MW (7.4 percent), while Maluku and Papua require 900 MW (2.4 percent).

As of August 2017, the electrification ratio reached 91.5 percent of the 93.41 percent target. With the 35,000 MW power plant project, a 100 percent electrification ratio can be achieved by 2024.
