Motor vehicle density in Papua Island is the lowest compared to other regions. According to data from the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), the road length ratio in Papua and West Papua only reaches 33.45. This means that for every one kilometer (km) of road in the region, there are 33 motor vehicles served. For information, the road length in Papua is 21,560 km, while the number of vehicles is 721,000.
Meanwhile, the highest motor vehicle density is on Java Island, with a road length ratio to the number of motor vehicles reaching 510.96. This means that every one km of road on Java Island serves more than 500 vehicles. The national road length ratio to the number of motor vehicles is 216.37.
Although this ratio does not yet reflect the actual road density because it does not take into account the weight differences of vehicle types, it can at least provide information on the level of road use in a region. Road length includes the length of regency roads, provincial roads, and national roads, and does not include toll roads. The types of vehicles considered are passenger cars, buses, trucks, and motorcycles.
