Jakarta-based production house and content creator Studio Antelope has released a list of the 10 highest-grossing Indonesian films of 2023.
Topping the list is *Sewu Dino*, with 4,891,609 viewers since its release on April 19, 2023. Produced by MD Pictures, the film is estimated to have grossed Rp202.6 billion.
*Sewu Dino* is adapted from a horror story thread on Twitter written by SimpleMan, the author of the horror story behind the film *KKN di Desa Penari* (2022). According to the author, parts of the film are inspired by a true story.
The second highest-grossing film is *Di Ambang Kematian* (On the Brink of Death), with 3,300,000 viewers. This horror film was produced by MVP Pictures.
Third place goes to the drama *Air Mata di Ujung Sajadah* (Tears at the Edge of Prayer), with 3,127,671 viewers.
Fourth place is *172 Days*, with 2,683,172 viewers, followed by *Petualangan Sherina 2* in fifth place, with 2,414,504 viewers.
Overall, the top 10 highest-grossing Indonesian films of 2023 are still dominated by the horror genre.
