According to IdeaWorksCompany data in the *2023 Allianz Partners Big Book of Travel Data* report, the number of global airline passengers surpassed 3 billion in 2022. This represents a 30.4% year-on-year (YoY) increase.
American Airlines ranked first globally last year, carrying 199.28 million passengers. This figure shows a 20.8% YoY increase.
Delta Airlines came in second with 171.35 million passengers in 2022, followed by Ryanair Group, which transported 168.6 million passengers throughout the year.
United Airlines carried a total of 144.3 million passengers, followed by Southwest Airlines with 126.58 million passengers.
Overall, the majority of airlines with the highest number of passengers globally last year were from Europe (5 companies). This was followed by airlines from the United States and Canada (4 companies), while Asia and the South Pacific had only 1 company represented.
Unfortunately, no Indonesian airline made it into the top 10 airlines with the most passengers worldwide last year.
