Volvo Cars reported global sales of 708,716 units in 2023. This represents a 15% year-on-year (YoY) increase compared to the previous year's 615,121 units. The Swedish car manufacturer claims that last year's sales reached a record high.
"This demonstrates the strength of Volvo Cars' electric car portfolio combined with a more stable supply chain," Volvo wrote in its press release on Friday, January 5, 2024.
In 2023, Volvo cars were most popular in the European market, with sales totaling 294,794 units. This represents a 19% YoY growth. Sales in the region were supported by pure EVs and PHEVs.
Next, Volvo sales in China totaled 170,091 units, a 5% YoY increase. Sales in the United States reached 128,701 units, growing by 26% year-on-year.
In China, environmentally friendly cars were the most popular. In the US market, the best-selling models were Recharge variants, both EV and PHEV.
Meanwhile, global sales in other countries totaled 115,130 units, an 11% increase from 2022 (YoY).
By model, the Volvo XC60 was the best-selling model with total sales of 228,646 units this year. This was followed by the XC40 with 200,670 units sold and the XC90 with 107,549 units sold.
