The long Idul Fitri holiday in June 2018 impacted national car sales. The Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo) recorded a drop of over 41% in four-wheeled vehicle sales in June of that year, down to 58,837 units from the previous month and 11.4% lower than June 2017.
This sales figure was also the lowest in the past 35 months, as shown in the graph below. For information, national automotive sales have consistently fallen by around 30% during the Idul Fitri holiday since 2015. However, this decline is only situational, resulting from the reduced working days during the Eid al-Fitr celebrations.
However, cumulatively, domestic car sales in the first half of 2018 still recorded growth of 3.7%, reaching 553,779 units compared to 533,858 units in the first half of the previous year. With this first-half achievement, Gaikindo's target of 1.1 million units in car sales is achievable.
