Domestic Air Passengers Plummeted 71.7% in July 2021 Following the Implementation of PPKM

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded 995,400 domestic air passengers in July 2021, a 71.7% decrease compared to the previous month's 3.52 million. This figure also represents a 31.7% decrease compared to the same period last year.

In July 2021, Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Tangerang had the highest number of domestic air passengers, with 249,900. Juanda Airport recorded 74,100 domestic air passengers.

Hasanuddin Airport in Makassar had 73,800 domestic air passengers. Kualanamu Airport in Medan and Ngurah Rai Airport in Denpasar recorded 51,400 and 50,000 passengers respectively. The remaining 496,200 domestic air passengers were spread across various other airports.

From January to July 2021, the total number of domestic air passengers reached 16.6 million, a 15.4% decrease compared to the same period last year, which saw 19.7 million passengers.

BPS Deputy for Distribution and Service Statistics, Setianto, stated that the decrease in air passengers in July 2021 was due to the implementation of emergency community activity restrictions (PPKM). As a result, public mobility using air transportation was affected.
