The Indonesian government allocated Rp5 trillion (approximately US$337 million) in 2023 to the Indonesian Cultural Endowment Fund (Dana Abadi Kebudayaan) or Dana Indonesiana. This fund, managed by the Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education (LPDP) under the Ministry of Finance, is sourced from the State Budget (APBN) and investment income.
The funds support cultural sector initiatives, including cultural facilities and scholarships for cultural practitioners. Beneficiaries include individuals, cultural groups/communities, and cultural organizations.
According to data from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) received by Databoks, 263 recipients passed the substantive review for Dana Indonesiana in 2023. This number was selected from 3,051 submitted proposals. Of the 263 recipients, only 218 signed contracts.
In terms of region, DKI Jakarta had the highest number of Dana Indonesiana recipients in 2023, with 22 recipients. This was followed by West Java, Central Java, and East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), each with 21 recipients.
The cultural budget has been allocated at Rp2 trillion (approximately US$135 million) for 2024. Hilmar Farid, Director General of Culture at Kemendikbudristek, hopes that Dana Indonesiana will continue to accommodate various community initiatives in the cultural field and serve as a long-term investment.
“We hope that this funding will expand public access to funding sources to strengthen public involvement in a sustainable cultural advancement ecosystem,” said Hilmar, as reported by Indonesia.go.id on Monday, July 17, 2023.
