Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi estimates that 79.4 million people will travel home for Eid al-Fitr in 2022. Of this number, 13 million are expected to travel from the Jabodetabek area (Greater Jakarta), with the remainder coming from other regions.
These survey results from the Ministry of Transportation's Research and Development Agency were presented by Budi at a meeting with Commission V of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) in Jakarta on Wednesday, April 6, 2022.
Based on the survey conducted in March 2022, private vehicles are the primary mode of transportation chosen by travelers this year.
The following is a list of transportation methods to be used by travelers:
* Private vehicles: 40 million people
* Buses and ferries: 26.7 million people
* Airplanes: 8.9 million people
* Trains: 8.2 million people
* Ships: 1.4 million people
* Other transportation: 0.1 million people
A previous survey in February 2022 estimated the number of travelers at 55 million, with 9.1 million originating from Jabodetabek.
The provinces expected to be the most popular destinations this year are Central Java (23.5 million), followed by East Java (16.8 million), and West Java (14.7 million).
The preferred travel routes include the Trans-Java Toll Road, Central Java routes, the Cipularang Toll Road, the Pantura route, and the Trans-Sumatra road.
According to the survey, the peak of the exodus is predicted to occur on April 29-30, 2022, while the return flow is expected to begin on May 8, 2022.
