Traffic data analytics firm INRIX released a study titled "Global Traffic Scorecard 2021." The results show that Surabaya was the most congested city in Indonesia in 2021.
Not only did Surabaya rank first as the most congested city in Indonesia, but it also ranked 41st globally. The INRIX report indicates that people lost 62 hours in traffic congestion in Surabaya.
Meanwhile, Jakarta ranked second as the most congested city in Indonesia and 222nd globally. Traffic congestion in Jakarta resulted in drivers losing 28 hours.
Denpasar ranked third as the most congested city in Indonesia and 291st globally. Drivers in Bali's capital lost 31 hours due to congestion.
Malang ranked fourth as the most congested city in Indonesia and 334th globally. The INRIX report shows that drivers in Malang lost 29 hours due to traffic congestion.
Bogor ranked fifth as the most congested city in Indonesia and 821st globally. Drivers in Bogor lost seven hours due to traffic congestion.
Inrix conducted its research in over 1,000 cities across 50 countries. The research used anonymized GPS probe data to identify the most frequently visited routes and destinations across regions, creating a more accurate picture of travel patterns within an area, not just to and from city centers.
