Domestic and Export Motorcycle Sales Decline in July 2021

Motorcycle sales in Indonesia showed a decline in July when the government implemented Emergency Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM Darurat). The decline occurred in both domestic sales and exports.

Based on the Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI)'s release on July 2021 motorcycle sales data, the volume of motorcycle sales in the domestic market was recorded at 376,640 units throughout July 2021. This figure is approximately 12.1% lower than the previous month, which was 428,556 units.

A similar decline also occurred in the volume of motorcycles exported abroad. The figure was 66,105 units in the seventh month of this year, down 7.5% from June 2021, which was 71,441 units.

Despite this, motorcycle sales increased year-on-year. The sales volume in the domestic and export markets increased by 28.9% and 15.8%, respectively.

Meanwhile, the most widely distributed type of motorcycle in Indonesia is the scooter (86.95%). Other types, such as underbone and sport, have small distribution proportions, namely 6.78% and 6.27%, respectively.

A similar trend occurred in export distribution. 70.75% of total motorcycle distribution was scooters, while sport motorcycles accounted for 16.34% and underbone motorcycles 12.91%.
