PT MRT Jakarta has recorded an increase in the number of passengers using its transportation services following the increase in fuel prices.
The government set the fuel price increase on September 3, 2022, at 2:30 PM WIB.
MRT Jakarta's Director of Operations and Maintenance, Muhammad Effendi, stated that the average daily increase in passengers reached 3.8% after the fuel price hike compared to before.
"Compared to before, the average number of MRT users before the fuel price increase was 61,104 people per day. After the fuel price increase, the average number of users was 63,339 people per day," said Effendi, as quoted by *Kompas.com* on Tuesday (20/9).
Effendi continued that the highest increase in MRT Jakarta passengers occurred on weekdays, at 8.5% after the fuel price increase.
Before the fuel price increase, the number of MRT Jakarta passengers on weekdays was recorded at 67,212 people. Afterward, it reached 72,947 people.
Although not as high as on weekdays, MRT Jakarta passengers also increased during weekends, with an increase of 4%.
After the fuel price increase, the number of MRT Jakarta passengers reached 44,123 people on weekends. Previously, it was only 42,417 people.
