The number of KRL Commuterline users plummeted due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This was partly caused by restrictions on public mobility, including limitations on public transportation use to reduce the risk of virus transmission.
The number of KRL Commuterline users has started to grow again this year. According to a report by PT Kereta Commuter Indonesia (KCI), the average number of KRL Commuterline users reached 538,537 people per day from January to August 2022.
This figure is higher than in 2021, where the average volume of KRL Commuterline users was only 350,210 people per day.
Previously, in the first year of the pandemic, the average volume of KRL Commuterline users was only 422,382 people per day in 2020. This number drastically decreased compared to 2019, which was 921,297 people per day.
“In 2020, it decreased due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and in 2021 it decreased further due to phases 2 and 3 of Covid-19. Alhamdulillah, in 2022, the average volume of KRL Commuterline users started to rise again,” said the Acting Director of Engineering at PT KCI, Roppiq Lutfi Azhar, in a Hearing Meeting with Commission V of the DPR RI on Wednesday (14/9/2022).
