The Official Airline Guide (OAG) report shows that Lion Air is the airline with the most passengers in Southeast Asia. In August 2023, the Indonesian-based airline recorded 2.99 million filled passenger seats.
“Lion Air remains the largest airline in Southeast Asia based on seat (passenger) volume, and its capacity is now 13% below August 2019,” OAG said, as reported on its website.
Another Indonesian airline on this list is Batik Air. This Lion Air subsidiary had 1.8 million passengers and ranked 5th in Southeast Asia.
Citilink, with 1.32 million passengers in the same period, also made the list. This Garuda Indonesia airline ranked 10th in the region.
Vietnam Airlines ranked second with a total of 2.7 million passenger seats filled in August 2023. Another Vietnamese airline, VietJet, followed in third place with 2.35 million filled passenger seats.
In total, there were 37.1 million airline passenger seats in Southeast Asia in August 2023. This comprised 22.45 million seats from domestic flights and 14.67 million seats from international flights.
