ASEAN consumer interest in sustainability—issues concerning long-term benefits for the economy, society, and environment—has significantly strengthened in recent years.

This is recorded in the *e-Conomy SEA 2022* report from Google, Temasek, and Bain & Company.

According to the report, Google search trends for "sustainable" and "sustainability" in Singapore increased 2.8 times between 2020 and 2022.

Similar upward trends were also observed in Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia, as shown in the graph.

However, consumer interest in this issue still has significant room for growth.

Of the approximately 9,700 ASEAN consumers surveyed by Bain & Company in 2022, only 40% claimed to care about sustainability issues.

Google also found several obstacles hindering the adoption of sustainable products in ASEAN, one of which is a lack of consumer awareness.
