The Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo) reported that domestic wholesale car sales reached 88,876 units in August 2023.

This figure represents a slight 10.5% increase compared to the previous month (month-on-month/MoM). In July 2023, domestic sales of four-wheeled vehicles totaled 80,426 units.

However, August 2023's wholesale car sales performance showed an 8.33% decrease year-on-year (YoY) compared to August 2022, which recorded 96,956 units.

Cumulatively, domestic wholesale car sales from January to August 2023 reached 675,287 units. This is a 2.59% increase compared to the same period in 2022 (cumulative-to-cumulative/CTC), which totaled 658,231 units.

Citing Gaikindo's website on Wednesday (September 13, 2023), Gaikindo's First Chairman, Jongkie D Sugiarto, stated that the association targets Indonesia's wholesale car sales to reach 1.05 million units by the end of 2023. He is optimistic that this target can be achieved in the remaining four months of the year.

According to Gaikindo, Japanese car manufacturers still dominate the top positions in domestic wholesale car sales in August 2023. Toyota leads with sales of 30,149 units, representing 33.92% of total wholesale car sales that month.

Daihatsu is in second place with 17,481 wholesale units, followed by Honda with 11,778 units and Mitsubishi Motors with 7,100 units.
