The practice of vote buying is the public's biggest concern during the 2024 General Election. This aligns with the latest Populi Center survey published on Thursday (November 9, 2023).
The survey, compiled in the report *Starting Point: Electoral Position Ahead of the 2024 Election Campaign*, shows that 37.2% of respondents fear this issue.
The next concern is clashes between supporters of chosen candidates (19.8% of respondents). The following issue is fake news or hoaxes at 11.9%.
"This means that vote buying, clashes between supporters of candidates, and hoaxes are crucial issues that we need to examine and anticipate so that public concerns do not materialize," said Populi Center researcher Hartanto Rosojati in an online press conference on Thursday (November 9, 2023).
Furthermore, 6.6% of respondents are worried about the misuse of official or government facilities during the election.
This is followed by respondents who are concerned about the politicization of religion/ethnicity (5.5%) and threats or intimidation to vote for a particular candidate (4.2%).
Concerns about election-related neutrality of civil servants (ASN/PNS), the neutrality of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI)/National Police (Polri), and other matters such as fraud and a two-round election, have a proportion of less than 3%.
Meanwhile, 4.3% of respondents felt no concerns, believing the election will proceed safely and peacefully. Another 3.8% did not know or did not answer (DK/DA).
This survey involved 1,200 respondents from all provinces in Indonesia. The sample was taken using stratified random sampling.
Data collection was conducted from October 29 to November 5, 2023, using face-to-face interviews via the Populi Center application. The margin of error is 2.83% with a 95% confidence level.
