The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) is launching a free bus transportation program for the 2023 Lebaran homecoming (Mudik).
This year's free homecoming program only has a quota of 24,072 passengers. The details are: 18,528 passengers for the outbound trip and 5,544 passengers for the return trip.
Those wishing to participate in Kemenhub's free homecoming program can register online through the Mitra Darat application. The application can be downloaded via Google Play or the App Store.
Registration opens from March 13, 2023, to April 14, 2023, and may close earlier if the quota is filled.
Requirements for registering for Kemenhub's 2023 free homecoming program are as follows:
1. Participants must possess valid identity documents at the time of registration (ID card/driver's license/family card).
2. Participants can only choose one homecoming destination city.
3. If participants will be participating in a round trip, registration for the return trip must be done simultaneously with the outbound trip registration (provided that the homecoming destination city has a return origin city option).
4. Participants are given until 7 days after the registration date to re-register/validate at the designated post.
5. If, after 7 days, participants do not re-validate, their data will be considered void and they cannot re-register.
6. Participants traveling round trip with a motorcycle must bring complete vehicle documents and surrender the motorcycle on the specified date.
7. Participants must be physically and mentally healthy at the time of departure for the outbound/return trip.
8. Participants must arrive at least 1 hour before the scheduled departure time.

"According to a survey by the Transportation Policy Agency, national movement during Eid al-Fitr 2023 will see a significant increase, with an estimated 123.8 million people going home," said Director General of Land Transportation Kemenhub Hendro Sugiatno in a virtual press conference on Monday (March 13, 2023).
"In Jabodetabek, it is estimated that 18.3 million people will go home, about 54% of the Jabodetabek population," he continued.
