In the second year of the pandemic, many countries have begun to ease social activity restrictions. However, traffic conditions in many cities have not returned to their pre-pandemic levels.
According to the *TomTom Traffic Index*, congestion in Jakarta in 2021 decreased by 19% compared to 2019 before the pandemic hit.
Thus, Jakarta ranks 5th in the world as a city experiencing a significant decrease in congestion.
Currently, Jakarta's congestion level is estimated at 34%, meaning that a journey that should take 30 minutes in smooth traffic conditions takes 40 minutes, a 34% increase, due to congestion.
Meanwhile, Manila, the capital of the Philippines, is ranked as the city with the highest decrease in congestion worldwide. Currently, Manila's congestion level is estimated at 43%, a 28% decrease compared to 2019.
Next is Bengaluru, the capital of an Indian state, with a 23% decrease in congestion. Then Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, with a 22% decrease. This is followed by Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, which experienced a 16% decrease in congestion.
