The Indonesian government's decision to raise the price of Pertalite and Solar fuel on September 3, 2022, triggered inflation in the transportation expenditure group.
The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that passenger transportation costs in Kotamobagu, North Sulawesi, surged 29.39% month-on-month (mom) in September 2022.
The increase in transportation costs in Kotamobagu far exceeded the national average, which only rose by 5.18% (mom) in September 2022. This increase was also the highest among the 89 other cities surveyed by BPS.
The cities with the next highest increases in passenger transportation costs were Watampone at 25.72% (mom), followed by Pare-Pare at 20.1% (mom), Sukabumi at 19.73% (mom), Serang at 19.53% (mom), and Cirebon at 19.27% (mom).
This was followed by Pematang Siantar with an 18.7% (mom) increase in passenger transportation costs. Padangsidimpuan saw a rise of 18.56% (mom), Tembilahan 18.1% (mom), and Sibolga 17.29% (mom).
Looking at the year-on-year (yoy) figures, the highest increase in passenger transportation costs occurred in Tanjung Selor, North Kalimantan.

* Kota Banjarmasin: 66.00% (yoy)
* Kota Banda Aceh: 65.17% (yoy)
* Mamuju: 59.79% (yoy)
* Kota Pangkal Pinang: 58.55% (yoy)
Previously, on September 3, 2022, the government raised the price of Pertalite (RON 90) by Rp2,350 per liter (30.72%), to Rp10,000 per liter, and the subsidized price of Solar by Rp1,650 per liter, to Rp6,800 per liter.
