Tesla Model Y to Become the World's Best-Selling Electric Vehicle by Early 2025

According to Clean Technica, global electric vehicle sales reached 1.25 million units in January 2025. This volume grew by 18% year-on-year (YoY).

At the beginning of the year, the Tesla Model Y again topped the list as the best-selling electric vehicle globally, with sales of 66,536 units.

"However, sales fell by 6%. This is its worst performance since January 2023," wrote Clean Technica in its report on Tuesday (March 4, 2025).

The BYD Song/Seal U followed in second place with sales of 47,502 units in January 2025. This figure combines sales of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs).

Third place was occupied by a newcomer, the Geely Geome Xingyuan, with sales of 28,146 units. This electric vehicle is touted as a competitor to the BYD Dolphin and Wuling Binguo.
