Kompas Research and Development conducted a survey on public concerns during the 2024 Regional Head Elections (Pilkada) campaign. The results show that a majority, or 47.7% of respondents, are worried about vote buying.
"Vote buying, using various methods, can be said to always 'taint' the democratic process in Indonesia, whether in legislative elections, presidential elections, or regional head elections," wrote the Kompas Research and Development team in their report on Monday, October 14, 2024.
Next, 22.2% of respondents are concerned about riots between supporters of competing candidates.
Then, 12.9% are worried about the spread of black campaigns or negative campaigning, and 8.6% are concerned about political polarization or division.
Only 3.9% of respondents expressed no concerns, and 4.7% did not know.
This survey also found that a majority, or 65.5% of respondents, stated that campaigning in any form would not influence their choice.
Kompas Research and Development conducted this survey with 532 respondents from 38 Indonesian provinces, selected randomly and proportionally.
Data collection was conducted from September 23-25, 2024, through telephone interviews. The survey's margin of error is approximately 4.23% with a 95% confidence level, under conditions of simple random sampling.
