Top 10 Best-Selling Electric Vehicles Globally, August 2024: BYD Dominates

According to a Clean Technica report, global electric vehicle sales reached 1.46 million units in August 2024.

During this period, the Tesla Model Y was again the best-selling electric vehicle globally, with sales of 99,290 units.

Another Tesla production model, the Tesla Model 3, ranked fourth with sales of 44,413 units.

"Tesla is expected to reach the first and second positions in September, as Model 3 usually experiences peak sales at the end of the quarter," wrote Clean Technica in its report on Wednesday (October 9, 2024).

However, the list of the best-selling electric vehicles globally in August 2024 was dominated by Build Your Dreams (BYD). Six out of the top 10 vehicles on this list came from the Chinese manufacturer.

One of these was the BYD Song/Seal U, which ranked second with sales of 65,274 units. This figure combines sales of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs).

Combining all its models, BYD became the best-selling electric vehicle manufacturer globally in August 2024, with sales of 355,174 units or 24.2% of total global sales.
