The latest report from the Official Airline Guide (OAG) shows that Lion Air remains the airline with the highest number of passengers among ASEAN countries. The Indonesian airline filled 2.97 million passenger seats in September 2023.
“Lion Air remains the largest airline in Southeast Asia based on seat volume (passengers) with capacity unchanged from the previous month, reaching almost 3 million seats (passengers),” said OAG, as reported on its website.
Next, AirAsia ranks second in Southeast Asia. The Malaysian airline recorded 2.31 million passengers last month.
Then, Vietnam Airlines ranks third among airlines with the most passengers in Southeast Asia as of September 2023, with a total of 2.07 million filled passenger seats. Another Vietnamese airline, VietJet, follows in fourth place with a total of 2 million filled passenger seats.
Besides Lion Air, the only other Indonesian airline in the top 10 airlines with the most passengers in ASEAN is Batik Air. This Lion Air subsidiary had 1.77 million passengers and ranks fifth in the region.
Furthermore, Citilink had 1.27 million passengers in the same period. This Garuda Indonesia subsidiary ranks tenth in Southeast Asia.
In total, approximately 34.9 million airline passenger seats were filled in Southeast Asia in September 2023. This comprises 20.63 million seats from domestic flights and 14.21 million seats from international flights.
