In September 2022, the Wuling Air EV outsold other electric vehicle brands such as Hyundai and Toyota. The Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo) reported that Hyundai no longer holds the leading position in the Indonesian electric vehicle market.
Based on Gaikindo's data on factory distribution to dealers (wholesale), Wuling Air EV sales reached 1,887 units. The most popular Wuling Air EV model was the Long Range, with 1,325 units sold. The Standard Range sold 562 units.
The strong sales performance of the Wuling Air EV is attributed to its relatively low price for a Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) segment. The Long Range is priced at Rp295,000,000, while the Standard Range is cheaper at Rp238,000,000.
Meanwhile, wholesale distribution of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric car was only 261 units last month. The Ioniq 5's price is significantly higher than the Wuling BEV, ranging from Rp748,000,000 to Rp859,000,000.
Interestingly, although in different segments, both cars are assembled locally in Indonesia.
