The Indonesian government finally temporarily banned Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft following the crash of Ethiopian Airlines flight ET-302 on Sunday, March 10, 2019. Previously, a similar aircraft, Lion Air JT610, crashed in October of the previous year. This means that within six months, two Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft crashed minutes after takeoff. For information, the Boeing 737 series is the best-selling aircraft with orders reaching 4,754 units out of a total of 5,948 units.
Throughout 2018, Boeing received orders for 893 aircraft. This figure represents a 3.24% increase compared to the previous year's demand of 865 units. Boeing's highest number of orders was recorded in 2013, reaching 1,208 units, coinciding with the growth of low-cost carriers (LCCs), as shown in the graph below. Meanwhile, aircraft deliveries in 2018 reached 806 units worldwide.
Boeing is the world's largest aerospace company, producing both commercial and military aircraft, as well as satellites. The Chicago-based aircraft manufacturer recorded sales of US$101.1 billion in 2018, a 7.58% increase from the previous year. Net income grew by 23.67% to US$10.46 billion from the previous year.
