The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) reported that the number of public transportation passengers during the 2022 Christmas and 2023 New Year holiday period reached 8,316,131 people. This figure includes passengers across all national transportation modes during the period of December 19-30, 2022.
"This number increased by 41.59% compared to the same period last year, which was 4,857,432 passengers," said Kemenhub Spokesperson Adita Irawati, as reported by *Katadata*, Sunday (1/1/2023).
The highest number of passengers was recorded in air transportation, namely 2,425,613 people. This number increased by 31.97% from the same period in 2021 (year-on-year/yoy).
Then, road transportation had 1,779,764 passengers or an increase of 41.28% (yoy), ferry transportation 1,659,773 passengers or an increase of 36.22% (yoy), rail transportation 1,582,528 passengers or an increase of 64.14% (yoy), and sea transportation 684,529 passengers or an increase of 26.42% (yoy).
The peak of public transportation passenger movement during the holiday period occurred on December 23, 2022, with 769,382 passengers for all modes of transportation.
Broken down by mode, the highest daily number of passengers for road transportation was recorded on December 26, 2022, at 171,567 passengers. Next were 165,503 ferry passengers on December 24, 2022, and 244,717 air passengers on December 23, 2022.
The highest number of sea transportation passengers was recorded on December 21, 2022, at 69,287 passengers, while rail transportation had 156,990 passengers on December 23, 2022.
Based on data monitored by Jasa Marga (Persero) Tbk at four main toll gates, the movement of vehicles leaving the Jabodetabek area remained quite high until Friday (December 30, 2022).
There were 348,952 vehicles leaving the Jabodetabek area on December 29-30, 2022, an increase of 16.94% compared to normal traffic.
Kemenhub urged the public to remain vigilant while traveling, especially with the potential for extreme weather at the end of 2022 and the beginning of January 2023.
"We recommend postponing travel if the weather is unfavorable. If travel is unavoidable, it is advisable to prepare well to anticipate travel disruptions due to bad weather, such as delays or cancellations, and so on," said Adita.
