The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that the number of international air passengers in August 2022 reached 824,300. This figure represents a 32.29 percent increase compared to July 2022.
This increase in passenger numbers occurred across all observed airports: Hasanuddin Airport (Makassar) saw a 400 percent increase; Juanda Airport (Surabaya), an 82.93 percent increase; Kualanamu Airport (Medan), an 81.70 percent increase; Soekarno-Hatta Airport (Tangerang), a 31.90 percent increase; and Ngurah Rai Airport (Denpasar), an 18.63 percent increase.
Soekarno-Hatta Airport (Tangerang) had the highest number of international passengers, reaching 395,700, or 48 percent of the total international passengers. Ngurah Rai Airport (Denpasar) had the second highest number, with 297,400 passengers, representing 36.08 percent of the total.
From January to August 2022, the total number of international air passengers, using both domestic and foreign airlines, reached 3.2 million. This is a 788.81 percent increase compared to the same period the previous year.
Soekarno-Hatta Airport (Tangerang) again recorded the highest number of international passengers during this period, with 1.9 million passengers, or 59.61 percent of the total. Ngurah Rai Airport (Denpasar) followed with 890,100 passengers, representing 28.08 percent.
